CSI International – Brand : Recognize Your CSI Stars
CSI International enables companies to recognize others in words, deeds and actions. Since 1979, they have been passionately delivering personalized recognition that improves employee engagement and business results.
The Task
Design a Recognition Celebration Packaging Program to honor employee achievements through selected gifts with a personalized message. CSI wanted a cut out window to show the recipient's name and award information. The overall design must be professional and universal so that it works with all of their clients who have a broad range of corporate image looks. Client asked for two different sizes. I also was tasked to photograph and digitally mock up the packaging to show off the capability of the offering.
My Role
My role was to meet the clients needs through design. This meant I had to wear many hats. as acting art director I was responsible for creating the presentation package design, identifying specifications and type setting designs with variable data capabilities for printing and photography.
My Process
- met with client and their associates to learn specific project details (production flow, box content information, manufacturing)
- identified the constraints that limited us
- sketched out ideas and presented to leadership team
- designed high fidelity mockups
- figured out how to easily scale the box to accommodate different sized gifts and price points
- designed a template for personalization through a data merge variable
- created specs for hand off to printers and packaging manufacturer in china
- took high res photographs of the products for website and printed collaterals

The Outcome
I felt a sense of pride with the final product. All the requirements were met and expectations were exceeded. I learned a lot about managing and designing with variable data, giving me a new perspective on. functional design. This presentation packaging brings a highly personalized and higher perceived value to each recipient's achievement and gift. Mission accomplished!
